Pneuma is a video installation that poetically explores the ideas of repetition, gesture and movement in performance for the camera. The dancer, Wynne Fricke, gingerly walks on her tip toes, eyes closed, until she looses her balance and falls to the ground. In the next take she slowly rolls toward the camera until she is out of view, only to return to her starting point and repeat her slow movement forward. Together the gestures of falling and rolling forward create a poetic narrative without a specific story. These actions become reminiscent of the repetition of human behavior - when one does something repeatedly even when the gesture is not helpful or more powerfully often destructive to the well being of the organism.
