yangtze

Oculus Yangtze is an interactive video installation with three channels of video, four channel sound controlled by microporcessors & laser sensors mounted in benches or on the floor. As a visitor to the gallery sits on the bench or steps in front of a laser beam the microprocessor triggers another video projected on the a surface of silica sand on the floor. The footage for this project was shot on the Yangtze River in 1999 on a trip from Chongqing 400 K east to the site of the Three Gorges Dam, the largest dam in the world. Oculus Yangtze looks at this track of one of the most important rivers in the world through the lenses of global economics and cultural and artistic metaphor.
